Guest Speaker

On Friday, members of one of our LifeSkills classes had the opportunity to listen to a guest speaker present on the five steps on How to Solve a Problem.  The students were dazzled by a 10 minute, interactive presentation that included an ActivBoard Flipchart.  Great Work Braxten!

WE DID IT!

Recently, EES went through an accreditation visit that was part of our 5 year improvement cycle.  Over this 2 day visit, a team of 4 educators from different places in Wyoming came and interviewed, observed, and reviewed artifacts to see how we are progressing under the 7 Standards of Advanc-Ed.  I am thrilled to announce that after the visit, we received a recommendation of Full Accreditation Status, the highest mark we could receive.  This is awesome, and a tremendous tribute to everyone associated with our school.  Thank you for your support!

UPDATE

The final report is out and can be found at the following link.  Congratulations to everyone!

Upcoming Events

Please remember that Monday, September 7, 2009 is Labor Day.   There will be no school. School will resume on Tuesday, September 8.

The following is statement is from the U.S. Secretary of Education, Arne Duncan:

“In a recent interview with a student reporter, President Obama announced that on September 8 – the first day of school for many children across America – he will deliver a national address directly to students on the importance of education.  The President will challenge students to work hard, set educational goals, and take responsibility for their learning.  He will also call for a shared responsibility and commitment on the part of students, parents and educators to ensure that every child in every school receives the best education possible so they can compete in the global economy for good jobs and live rewarding and productive lives as American citizens.”

This will be broadcast live at 10:00 am (MDT) through the website: http://www.whitehouse.gov.  Downloads of the original broadcast will be made available later that same day.  Due to the potential high amount of Internet traffic during the live feed, and the complications often associated with high Internet congestion, Etna Elementary Students will have the opportunity to view the downloaded video at 2:00 in the afternoon on September 8, 2009.

The White House is planning to release the text of the upcoming speech on Monday, September 7, 2009 on their website as well.

ATV Safety

Over the past 2 days, students were able to take part in an ATV Safety Training Course offered by the State of Wyoming Department of State Parks.  Mr. Christopher McNeil traveled from Lander to give students a 45 minute lesson on proper use of trails, as well as how to safely operate ATV’s.  With the upcoming summer season, I hope students were able to learn and be prepared.  For more information about this program, please visit the link below:

Literacy Week

During the week of April 20th, EES is celebrating Literacy week in the following ways:

  • A Home Reading challenge where if the entire student body reads 75,000 minutes, I have to eat a cream pie in 1 minute with my hands behind my back.  If I am unable to eat the pie in that time, I will serenade the school with the “Mustang Song.”
  • Tune their radio dial to KRSV on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday nights at 7:00 p.m. to listen to “Bedtime Stories,” which is sponsored in part by each elementary school’s PTO.  Tuesday night, Mrs. Clark will read and Mr. Hodgson will read on Thursday.
  • The 6th grade will present “Suessical Jr.” to EES, Thayne Elementary School, and the public.  Public times are Friday and Saturday night at 7:00.

Based on the picture below, the students at EES are bound and determined to get their minutes!

Etna vs. Osmond

On the evening of April 16, 10 students from Osmond and 9 students from Etna competed in an archery competition for the first time in either school’s history.  A lot of parents trekked through the wonderful spring weather to Etna to watch their students compete.  A big thank you to Neal and Mary Kiehne and Jeff Whitney for making this happen.  Etna students will be traveling south on the evening of May 21 to compete again with Osmond.  As for the scores, the following link will take you to final tally.  Congratulations competitors!
